1 Day Shimba Hills

06:00 – 07:00 AM – Hotel Pick-Up
Pick-up from your hotel in Diani, Ukunda, or Mombasa in a safari van or 4×4 Land Cruiser.

Drive through rural villages, sugarcane and palm plantations en route to Shimba Hills National Reserve (~45–90 minutes depending on location).

Morning Game Drive
Enter the reserve via KWS gate.
Guided safari drive through tropical coastal rainforest and open grasslands.
Wildlife sightings may include:

Sable antelope (rare and only found here in Kenya)
Elephants, giraffes, buffalo, warthogs, bushbuck
Monkeys: colobus, vervet, Sykes
Rich birdlife: hornbills, eagles, turacos

Sheldrick Falls Hike
Meet KWS ranger for a moderate guided hike (~2 km return) to the 21m high Sheldrick Waterfalls.
Walk through dense forest, learn about local flora and bird species.
Optional: take a quick dip or cool off near the base of the falls (slippery rocks, caution advised).
Return hike to the top.

Lunch at Shimba Hills Lodge
Head to the famous Shimba Hills Treetop Lodge (or similar).
Enjoy lunch overlooking a waterhole—ideal for elephant and antelope sightings during meals.
Menu: Often buffet-style or plated Swahili/local cuisine. Vegetarian and special diet options available with advance notice.

Afternoon Game Drive
Post-lunch slow drive through forested hills and valleys.
Stop at scenic points like Marere Viewpoint or Elephant Hill.
Optional: visit Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary (if included or pre-arranged).

Scenic Stops & Photo Opportunities
Final chance to spot wildlife, take photos at hilltop lookouts or catch elephants near watering holes.
3:00 – 4:30 PM – Return Drive
Exit Shimba Hills via the main gate.

Drive back to Diani/Mombasa.
Drop-off at your hotel/resort by 4:30–5:30 PM.
